Once again it was Greg who spotted this amazing web from afar, while we were bush walking . The sunshine had reflected off the web and caught his eye.
Orb-weavers are amazing spiders and they make such beautiful lacy webs.
It seems the lost budgie we found two weeks ago has attracted a pair of lorikeets to the area. We can't get a peep out of her when she's in the unit, but she chirps to her heart's content when out on the verandah.
This afternoon, I attended the Wolli Creek Preservation Society's teacher orientation bushwalk.
We were told information about the flora, fauna and Eora history of the area.
My students 4GK, named their three hermit crabs today. No one knows which
are male or female so they guessed.
From left to right we have: Sam, Rose and Fred.
I did go back to the vet to pick up the lost budgie from the other day. We have not yet named her. We'd first like to see what kind of character she is.
Yes, she is a 'her'. A fellow pet-owner in the waiting room worked out its gender by looking at the top of its beak. If it was blue it would be male but because it's brown, ours is a girl.
I spent a long time getting aquainted with these little guys. I bought them yesterday
for my class (from the pet shop). They are land hermit crabs and not sea hermit crabs.
Today I bought my class three hermit crabs. Unlike their name suggests, they prefer to live with other hermit crabs otherwise they could get lonely and die.
I placed them in a plastic food container as my fish tank is at school.
The first thing they did in that container was try to escape. I laughed as I noticed that they do not understand the concept of going around one another. They push and shove or climb over the top of whatever is in their way. LOL
This afternoon, Greg found this lost budgie near our bins. It was not moving around much and we thought it may have flown into a window. We took him upstairs and let him fly around the unit for a bit. He was quite thirsty. I missed the shot of him putting his head right into the watering can with his bottom half poking out. It looked quite funny!
I drove him to our local vet, but they'd had no calls about a lost budgie. The vet offered to keep him for a week to see if anyone is interested. I may buy a cage and keep him as a pet.

I have @georgiac to thank for this photo as these are her classroom pets at the moment. It is fascinating watching them chew leaves in such an ordered way.
It was not eating at the time I wanted to take the photo. It was hanging upside down on a thin branch, and I could not make heads or tails of it so Georgia took it out for me.
